Diableries: Stereoscopic Adventures in Hell

Price: $60.00
Item Number: 41856

The devil was close at hand in Victorian-era France --- particularly if you had a stereoscope.  A set of double-image, stereoscopic cards called Diableries  provided the curious public with a frightening, yet humrous peek into everyday life in hell.  Diableries  was extremely popular.

The images were created by photographing hand-sculpted scenes. When placed into the viewer, these two-dimensional tableaus became vividly 3D.

One hundred and eighty images are collected in the new book Diableries: Stereoscopic Adventures in Hell". This beautiful book comes with a sixteen layer lenticular fronted slipcase and a fold-out stereoscope viewer.

The book is written by Brian May, famed guitarist of Queen, doctor of astrophysics and life long stereo photography collector, Denis Pellerin and Paula Fleming. It contains detailed context for each Diablerie  highlighting political references, period jokes and technical accomplishments.

Absolutely one of our favorite books.
